The Compact for Dumfries and Galloway is a written agreement which defines the relationship between the
voluntary and community sector (also known as the "Third Sector") and public sector bodies. Download a copy
of the Compact below.
The Compact allows the Third Sector to influence public policy, making full use
of the experience and ideas out there in our communities. The Compact outlines the shared principles for public sector and
voluntary/community organisations to work together, including commitments from each side on working to provide better services
for the people of Dumfries & Galloway.
Making the Compact Work Once you have signed up
to the Compact you are able to use Compact Record Forms. Compact Record Forms detail the experiences you
have about working with third sector and public organisations and are used to both share best practice and highlight concerns.
Compact Champions in the public and third sector have been identified and supported; they have the job of
promoting Compact values and commitments, particularly within their own organisation.
The second annual Compact
Conference was held in November 2010, with key discussions on facing the future together and building community capacity.
A Conference DVD including presentations and the Conference Report is available. Please contact our offices
to get a copy.
Overseeing Compact Implementation There is a multi agency Compact Implementation
Working Group which is taking forward recommendations on how to make the Compact work and monitoring its effectiveness. This
Working Group is one of the Community Planning Working Groups so there are direct links in to other areas of joint working
including the Single Outcome Agreement, training and communications.
